"Run For The Roses"

Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby brings generations of racing history into a single afternoon at Churchill Downs. First held in 1875, the race is the opening leg of the Triple Crown, with three-year-old Thoroughbreds competing over a mile and a quarter. Its appeal reaches beyond the finish line: the Twin Spires, the winning horse’s garland of roses, and the anticipation of a new champion are part of a tradition that connects devoted racing fans and Derby-day visitors alike.

Justyn Farano’s “Run For The Roses” celebrates that complete Derby experience. Racing beneath the Twin Spires anchors the composition, while red roses and trophy imagery connect the action to the traditions surrounding victory. It is a tribute to Churchill Downs and the memories collectors carry from race day.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
