The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby in 2024 marked a milestone in American sporting history. From its first race in 1875, Churchill Downs has brought Thoroughbreds, jockeys, owners, and racing fans together around the pursuit of a Derby victory. The race opens the Triple Crown over a mile and a quarter, but its meaning extends beyond the competition. For generations of supporters, the Derby represents shared traditions, family memories, and the possibility of witnessing a champion emerge.
