"The 617 As One"

Boston Red Sox

The 2013 Boston Red Sox gave their city a team to rally around in a season marked by the Boston Marathon bombing. After finishing last in their division the year before, they returned as champions, with David Ortiz leading an October run that brought Boston its third World Series title in ten years. Ortiz’s .688 World Series batting average earned him MVP honors, but the meaning of that season extended beyond the numbers. “The 617 As One” celebrates a championship and the bond between a resilient city and its team.

Justyn Farano pairs Ortiz’s World Series performance with the bullpen scene from his ALCS grand slam, when officer Steve Horgan threw his arms up as Torii Hunter tumbled over the wall. The “Boston 617” jersey connects that October triumph to the city’s shared resilience. This artist recreation is hand-signed by David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester, Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
