"Swish"

Larry Bird

Larry Bird spent his entire NBA playing career with the Boston Celtics, helping the team win championships in 1981, 1984, and 1986. Three consecutive league MVP awards and two Finals MVP awards reflect the scoring, passing, and competitive judgment that made him central to Boston’s success.

Justyn Farano’s “Swish” focuses on Bird preparing to shoot, the basketball held in both hands and his eyes directed toward the basket. His green Celtics uniform contrasts with a warm gold background, while the team’s leprechaun emblem appears beside him. The uncluttered composition keeps the attention on his face, hands, and shooting preparation. It is a portrait of the concentration behind the familiar No. 33 and the expectations that followed a Bird shot. This original painting is hand-signed by Larry Bird.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
