"San Diego's Son"

Tony Gwynn

Tony Gwynn made precision at the plate an enduring part of San Diego’s identity. Across 20 seasons, all with the Padres, “Mr. Padre” collected 3,141 hits, won eight National League batting titles and finished with a .338 career average. Five Gold Gloves underscored the complete player behind that extraordinary bat. His loyalty to one city and his mastery of hitting made him a beloved figure far beyond the batter’s box. In “San Diego’s Son,” Justyn Farano celebrates the Hall of Famer whose name remains inseparable from Padres baseball and the fans who grew up watching him.

The “Mr. Padre” lettering, .338 average and Hall of Fame reference give Gwynn’s batting portrait the character of a career tribute. Warm brown and gold tones connect the composition with Padres tradition, celebrating the bond between a player and his city.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
