"Raging Bull"

John Riggins

John Riggins made the hardest yards his specialty. A powerful runner who finished his career with 11,352 rushing yards, he delivered his most celebrated performance in Super Bowl XVII, earning MVP honors as Washington won the championship. His strength and persistence gave the offense a dependable answer when the stakes were highest.

Justyn Farano’s “Raging Bull” captures that force in Washington’s burgundy and gold uniform of the period. Riggins carries the football close as he moves across the composition, his shoulders and arms emphasizing the power behind the run. Weathered lettering and warm gold textures give the portrait a rugged setting. The piece looks back at the workhorse runner whose determination became part of Washington’s championship identity.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
