"Proceed At Your Own Risk"

Ivan Rodriguez

Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez made testing a catcher’s arm a decision with consequences. A thirteen-time Gold Glove winner and fourteen-time All-Star, he combined defensive authority with the offense that earned him the 1999 American League MVP award. His career also brought a 2003 World Series championship, 2,844 hits and election to the Hall of Fame in 2017. “Proceed At Your Own Risk” celebrates the complete player behind that reputation, connecting fans to the intensity and confidence of one of baseball’s most accomplished catchers.

Justyn Farano makes Rodríguez’s throwing arm the focus of a career tribute, giving the title its warning to baserunners. His batting presence, career honors and Puerto Rican flag connect that defensive reputation with the fuller story of Pudge’s legacy. The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
