"In The Zone"

Ronde Barber

Ronde Barber could change a game in a single play. Across 16 seasons with Tampa Bay, he combined a cornerback’s instincts with a pass rusher’s timing, finishing with 47 interceptions and 28 sacks. His 92-yard interception return in the 2002 NFC Championship Game remains a defining moment in Buccaneers history, sealing the victory that sent Tampa Bay to its first Super Bowl title. His place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame followed in 2023.

Created during Barber’s playing career, Justyn Farano’s “In The Zone” captures the danger he presented with the football in his hands. Barber charges forward in his white No. 20 jersey against a weathered background of warm bronze, deep shadows, and pirate imagery. The close perspective puts the viewer in his path, celebrating the anticipation and competitive drive that made him a cornerstone of Tampa Bay’s defense.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
