"Fortitude"

Evan Longoria

Evan Longoria gave Tampa Bay a player to rally around, pairing power at the plate with exceptional defense at third base. The 2008 American League Rookie of the Year later earned three Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger, building a legacy woven into the Rays’ rise. His walk-off homer in the 2011 regular-season finale sent Tampa Bay into the postseason. In “Fortitude,” his second Longoria painting, Justyn Farano celebrates the resolve and presence that made Longoria such an enduring figure for Rays fans.

The close batting portrait makes Longoria’s concentration the heart of the piece. Towering “LONGO” lettering and his number 3 give the composition the presence of a personal tribute, while deep Rays blue and weathered textures reinforce its Tampa Bay identity.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
