"Check Mate"

Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick’s New England years made preparation part of the Patriots’ identity. Reading an opponent, recognizing a tendency, and finding the right adjustment were central to a coaching approach that demanded attention to every detail. “Check Mate” draws its title from that contest of decisions, presenting the coach as a figure studying his next move.

Justyn Farano’s first Belichick portrait holds the focus on his profile, headset, and concentrated expression. The dark background leaves little to distract from his gaze, while the familiar sideline clothing places the scene firmly within his Patriots tenure. The restrained composition offers a quieter view of football intensity, celebrating the calculation and discipline behind the action unfolding on the field.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
