"Catch Me If You Can"

Barry Sanders

Barry Sanders could make a crowded field feel wide open. In ten seasons with Detroit, he rushed for 15,269 yards and surpassed 1,000 yards every year. His 2,000-yard season in 1997 added a historic milestone to a career remembered just as vividly for sudden cuts, impossible escapes, and defenders left reaching for air.

Justyn Farano’s “Catch Me If You Can” captures Sanders leaning into a run with the football tucked close. Detroit blue and silver spread through a splintered, energetic background, carrying the movement of his No. 20 beyond the figure itself. The work celebrates the balance and change of direction that made Sanders unique, inviting the viewer into the brief instant before he found a way through.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
