"Ball Hawk"

Ed Reed

Ed Reed could turn an opponent’s passing play into an opportunity for Baltimore. His anticipation and range helped him collect 64 career interceptions, and he earned the 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. A Super Bowl XLVII champion, Reed brought both intelligence and daring to a Ravens defense known for making offenses uncomfortable.

Created during his Baltimore years, Justyn Farano’s “Ball Hawk” shows Reed with the football secured and his attention already shifting upfield. The purple No. 20 jersey stands sharply against a turbulent black, white, and gray background. The image concentrates on the instant defense becomes offense, celebrating the awareness and return instincts that made a throw in Reed’s direction such a dangerous decision.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
