"99 Past The Line"

JJ Watt

Few defenders commanded a game the way J.J. Watt did in Houston. A three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, he spent ten seasons making No. 99 the center of opposing game plans. His strength, relentless pursuit, and willingness to play through punishment made him the face of the Texans’ defense. By the time he retired after the 2022 season, his place among his era’s great defensive players was secure.

Justyn Farano’s “99 Past The Line” brings that intensity into a powerful dual portrait. In the foreground, Watt throws his head back in celebration. Behind him, a bloodied face shows the physical cost of the game. Texans red, white, and blue unite the two images, capturing both the exhilaration of a big play and the resolve required to make it.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
