"Thanks For The Memories"

David Ortiz

The New York Yankees commissioned Justyn Farano to create “Thanks For The Memories” as a retirement gift for David Ortiz, a remarkable tribute from one rival to another. Presented before Ortiz’s final game at Yankee Stadium, the original painting honors the Boston Red Sox slugger whose power and postseason performances helped define an era of the rivalry. For Red Sox fans, “Big Papi” represents three World Series championships and unforgettable October moments. For Farano, this commission brought those achievements into a shared expression of respect, celebrating a career whose impact reached across baseball’s fiercest divide.

Ortiz stands at home plate acknowledging the Yankee Stadium crowd, his familiar number 34 facing the viewer. Farano’s wide perspective makes the ballpark part of the tribute, placing Boston’s beloved slugger at the center of a setting usually reserved for his rivals.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
