"Gentleman's Game"

Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson’s appeal has always included the possibility of a shot few other players would attempt. Known as “Lefty,” he paired that creativity with major championship success: three Masters titles, two PGA Championships, and the 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield. His 2021 PGA victory at age 50 made him the oldest major champion in history. That blend of imagination, risk, and resilience has given golf fans decades of memorable moments to follow.

In “Gentleman’s Game,” Justyn Farano celebrates Mickelson’s distinctive left-handed swing and attention to the shot. The close portrait offers a lasting tribute to Lefty’s place in championship golf.

The philosophy behind my art has always been to make the most compelling, engaging experience for you, the viewer. I try to envision what it was like to compete against that athlete on the field. I want you to feel that grit and rawness of emotion, the athlete’s competitive fire, and passion.

As a perfectionist, my obsession of getting these details precise, takes razor focus, constant critiquing, and fine tuning. It’s not till the painting is complete to my highest of standard, till I am genuinely satisfied.
